A Childhood Memory of Good Old Days.

Yesterday, while lying in the bed for brief nap in hot summer afternoon of global North, I drifted to the good old days memories of my childhood. Those days, at around 6.15 p.m., we used to finish our evening play in our uncle’s campus, who was our next door neighbour.

His sprawling campus had a beautiful garden with various beds of flowers and in between them were straight to semi circular pathways. Here we played some sort of self improvised games like picking earthen lumps from flower beds and throwing them at our opponents who were taking position behind the shrubs on opposite side. It felt like a thrill when someone got hit with these earthen lumps which were not hurtful either.

In the finishing moments of our game, Gulab Chacha (our neighbour) signaled at us to have the evening snacks together. He was a man of taste and substance. The snacks sometime included roasted corn with sprinkles of salt, pepper and lemon. At other times it used to be omelette shreds mixed in to fried flattened rice flakes. Those flavour and aroma of delicious snacks at uncle’s house still linger in our hearts.

This good old memory of childhood days triggered in me a gush of impulse. At once I headed to market for buying eggs and flattened rice flakes. While leaving, I asked my wife about my plan to prepare this age old snacks for the evening, which she agreed.

That evening I relished not only food stuff but also the taste of good old days and forgotten times! The energy and the excitement that filled in me, diluted all the monotonicity looming over me. A feel of rejuvenation cheered me to the deep.
